The club had 10 gymnasts qualify for the southern zonals at the regional schools event in November. Gymnasts can represent their school in novice, intermediate and elite grades, and have the chance to qualify for the national schools final in Eastleigh. (more…)

The Flyers’ four gymnasts each performed three passes linking gymnastics skills on a sprung tumble track in front of a panel of judges.
To win the Littman trophy, club gymnasts achieved five gold and three silver individual medals, an open category team gold, as well as many top ten placings. It was a first attempt at competing for many of the club’s trampolinists. (more…)

Trampolinists from Okehampton Flyers Gym, Trampoline & DMT Club achieved six national medals and other top placings at the individual NDP national finals, held at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, on 13 and 14 July.
The individual NDP Finals is the last event of the trampoline season. All nine gymnasts qualified for this event in June by achieving a top eight place at the team finals in Birmingham, another national competition where the gymnasts represented the South West. (more…)
Okehampton Flyers trampolinists have won seven medals at the regional team finals, a national competition held at the Arena Birmingham.
Representing the South West, Harry and Owen Pitman both achieved gold medals in double mini trampoline (DMT), with Arran Stannard-Heap winning gold for trampoline.
Congratulations to Owen Pitman for winning trampoline individual bronze at the national Spring Event Series on Saturday 1 June.
This was Owen’s first time competing in the higher level trampoline FIG Development category, where he also achieved the highest voluntary routine execution and time of flight scores.
A further item of excellent financial news in recent weeks as Okehampton United Charities reaffirmed its’ support for Okehampton Gym, Trampoline and DMT Club with a superb grant of £15,000 toward new equipment.

Okehampton Flyers Gym, Trampoline & DMT Club had another good day at their second South West trampoline and double mini trampoline (DMT) regionals this season, coming away with three gold medals, two silver medals and other high placings.

For this competition, gymnasts were required to perform one compulsory routine and one voluntary routine, for which they could perform higher difficulty skills. SNAP is a fun, social club for children and young people with special needs to make friends and learn new skills.
Led by Melissa Coyle, Elaine Lightfoot and Vicki Pritchard, children and young people meet every Thursday, 6.45-8.15pm, to enjoy music, dance, gymnastics, trampolining, and develop throwing, catching and other fundamental movement skills through games and other sports. (more…)
Owen Pitman and Imogen Spooncer qualified for the national NDP finals at the regional team finals, a national event held at the Birmingham Arena in June, where Owen secured two individual gold medals in trampoline and double mini trampoline, and Imogen won a bronze medal in DMT. Flyers trampolinists won two individual gold medals and one individual bronze medal at the NDP regional team finals at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham on 16th and 17th June.
The regional finals is a national event that has 13 regional squads across the UK competing against each other for the regional team trophy and individual medals. (more…)

The South West regional team qualifying competition was held at the University of Bath. The top two performers in each grade and age group in trampoline and double mini trampoline (DMT) qualify for places in the regional team, with performers who come third and fourth qualifying as reserves. We are currently only permitted to enter 2 gymnasts into regional competitions, and 4 gymnasts into county competitions as we have no qualified officials. We have many children in the club who would like the chance to compete, but to enable them to do this, we need parents to qualify as tumbling, DMT and trampoline judges and to be prepared to judge on competition days.

Okehampton Flyers achieved top results at the South West trampoline and double mini-trampoline regionals.
A grant from Sport England to develop gym and trampolining for over 13s and adults enabled the club to purchase a 4×4 competition trampoline and double mini-trampoline (DMT). The equipment has given young people the opportunity to achieve a higher level in trampolining and to try a new gymnastics discipline. (more…)
The Flyers had another great day at the October South West regional trampolining competition.
At his first regionals, Owen Pitman achieved top form scores to secure second place in the NDP4 Men’s 13+ category. Miya Porter performed two quality routines to come 5th in the NDP3 Women’s 13+ class.
Well done to both gymnasts!
Miya Porter was the first to compete in the NDP3 U14 competition, performing two excellent, controlled routines to second place.
Owen Pitman won the NDP4 14+ class, with two stylish routines, finishing four marks ahead of the other competitors.

The sessions are open to 3-4 year olds and currently run on Mondays, 11-11.40am and 12.20-1pm, with a new session to start soon at 11.40am-12.20pm. The Friday session is 11-11.40am. All sessions are £3.
Children take part in fun warm up and stretching games and learn basic jumps, rolls and balances, as well as skills on apparatus including beam, springboard and vault.
The Okey Cokey is a lovely venue with a café for parents to sit in while their children are doing gymnastics, and a play area for children to enjoy before or after the session.
We still have spaces available, so if your son or daughter would like to come along, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to book.
The 3m x 2m landing mat will enable us to prepare our tumblers for competitions, and the soft play wedges and cylinder are versatile pieces of equipment that can be used for teaching rolls to pre-schoolers and more advanced skills to older gymnasts.
Okehampton Gym and Trampoline Club did more fundraising this summer with a Bounceathon on 19th August, where children could come along and learn skills on trampolines, trampette and air track at only £5 for two hours!
The day was run entirely by volunteers so thank you to everyone for your hard work!
We have recently been awarded £10,000 by Sport England to run an adult gym and trampoline session on a Thursday, 8.30-9.30pm!
The session is for teenagers and adults (14+) and participants can choose whether they do gym, trampolining or both. (more…)
Okehampton Gym and Trampoline Club wowed audiences at Super Sporting Sunday on 16 July, with trampolining and tumbling displays that included double somersaults and double twisting somersaults.
They also ran free have-a-go sessions for children and adults on the trampoline and inflatable tumble track.
It was a great day, despite the wet weather!
Congratulations to the West Devon gymnastics team for coming first in the South West Youth Games gymnastics competition.
An annual event, the competition requires gymnasts to compete a Key Steps floor routine, a vault exercise and a range and conditioning routine. The scores of the top four gymnasts in each team are then added together to form the total mark. (more…)
Okehampton Flyers came away with more medals from the Griffin trampoline competition in Street on Sunday 18 June.
The busy competition had large classes and competitors from across the South West. Trampolinists were required to perform one compulsory routine and one voluntary routine, for which they could perform higher difficulty skills. Our hard work raising money for a sprung tumble track has finally paid off! We were able to purchase a Continental sprung track in July, meaning we can prepare our gymnasts to enter tumbling competitions.
The Inner Wheel of Okehampton and the Rotary Club of Okehampton also made a very generous contribution of £300 each towards the track. (more…)
Okehampton Flyers Gym and Trampoline Club had a successful day at their first British Gymnastics Bath regional trampoline competition.
Angus Bond won the NDP4 13+ class with two solid routines and a top score for range and conditioning. Miya Porter came 8th in the 11-12 NDP3 class, also with two excellent routines.
Both gymnasts normally train on school trampolines, so they did well to adjust to the top level trampolines they had to compete on. (more…)
Okehampton Gym Club ran its first club tumbling competition in December. The competition was a fundraising event to raise money for a sprung tumbling track to enable its more advanced gymnasts to enter regional level competitions.
Each gymnast from the club performed a basic pass on floor mats or an advanced tumbling pass on an inflatable air track, and a range and conditioning routine to assess their strength and flexibility. The scores from each pass and the routine were added together to form the total mark. (more…)
Okehampton Trampoline Club came away with four medals from the Griffin Trampoline competition in Street on Sunday 13th November.
It was a busy competition with a friendly atmosphere. The trampolines were top level 6x4s and 4x4s, so the children did well to adjust to the bouncier trampolines with only three or four practice warm ups.
In her first competition, Bethan Honey won the gold medal in the U11 Award 6 class, with Alice Smith taking silver. Elise Boucher gave two steady performances in the U9 Award 6 to come 7th. (more…)
Children and parents had a hauntingly good time at Okehampton Gym and Trampoline Club’s Hallowe’en party on Friday 28th October.
Held to raise money for competition equipment, the fancy dress disco saw children and parents arrive dressed as vampires, princesses, spiders, ghosts and ghouls. (more…)
The entry fee includes a free ‘vampire’ drink. As well as a disco, there will be Hallowe’en games for the younger children, including a spookiest talent competition, a dance off and a pumpkin competition (bring in your home-carved pumpkins and we will decide on a winner). Congratulations to the West Devon gymnastics team who won the Devon Games team gymnastics competition on 3rd July.
The gymnasts were selected at area trials and performed a floor routine, a body management exercise comprising strength and flexibility skills and a vault exercise.
The team selected for West Devon was Demelza Brock, Eloise Cole, Shea Coyle, Bethan Honey and Jonah Lynch, with Sienna Fuller and Trinity Bridger as reserves.
Okehampton Gym, Trampoline and DMT Club had a good day at the Tornadoes competition in Totnes on 1st May, coming away with six medals.
For many, it was their first experience of a trampoline competition. For the more seasoned competitors, it was a chance to try out a higher grade. (more…)

Gymnasts must be 5 years or over to take part. Each gymnast will set themselves a target, e.g. 100 forward and backward rolls, 200 cartwheels or 150 somersaults in an hour, and find as many people to sponsor them as possible, filling in the details of sponsors on the attached form. (more…)
Well done to the West Devon gym team Katie Chapman, Melissa Doble-Headon, Oscar Hughes, Poppy Twort and Adam Voaden, who secured a bronze medal at the Devon Youth Games with superb performances on floor, vault and body management.
Okehampton Gym, Trampoline and DMT Club topped their competition success last month (October 2015), coming home with an array of medals from the Honiton and Totnes friendly competitions and the Devon Championships.
The club has been developing its competitive side and this year has started a squad to develop young athletes who want to reach a higher level in the sport. (more…)

Okehampton Gym, Trampoline and DMT Club had a successful day at the South Devon Flyers annual competition on 13th July, coming home with five medals.
Most of the competitors are part of Okehampton’s new trampoline squad, which focuses on developing and training young trampolinists for competitions.
