Session Information

Members Handbook

Information for members, parents and guardians including policies, procedures and codes of conduct are included in the Members Handbook which you can find in your club membership account online.

What to Wear

Gymnastics:

Leotard and shorts (not leggings). Children who are new to the club can wear a t-shirt and shorts for their first couple of sessions but will need to wear a leotard and shorts after that. Children will need to have bare feet for gymnastics but need to bring white socks in case we use the trampolines.

Please ensure that long hair is tied back, and that all jewellery is removed or taped. If your child has a verruca, please ensure that it is covered. If this is not possible, they will need to wear footwear suitable for physical activity, such as trainers, plimsolls or gym shoes.

Trampolining:

As for gymnastics. Children attending trampolining will also need to wear white socks.

What to Bring

Please bring a drink (nothing fizzy). There is no drinking water in the gym.

How to Find Us

Our sessions take place at Parklands Leisure Centre, Simmons Park, Okehampton, Devon, EX20 1EP; Holsworthy Leisure Centre, 2 Well Park, Holsworthy, Devon, EX22 6DH and the Okehampton College Gym, Mill Road, Okehampton, Devon, EX20 1PW.

Directions to Okehampton College Gym:

– From Mill Road, turn into Simmons Way, bearing right onto Courtenay Road, which takes you along the back of the college towards the new Pavilion and tennis courts.

– Be aware of the unfenced stream on the left of the lane.

– Half-way down Courtenay Road is a pair of blue gates.

– Turn right through the blue gates and go down the ramp.

– Straight ahead of you is the college sports hall, and down the steps to the right is the college gym.

Watching Sessions

As we have limited space in our venues and having many people sitting at the side of the room can be distracting for the children, we ask that parents leave for all sessions including mini gym and mini trampoline. Parents are welcome to watch Parklands sessions from the balcony overlooking Parklands sports hall, Holsworthy sessions from the viewing gallery at Holsworthy Leisure Centre, and Okehampon College gym sessions through the door windows to the gym.

Parents are also welcome to sit in our mini gym and mini trampoline sessions for the first couple of weeks if they feel it will help their children settle in.

If you have any queries about your children’s gymnastics or trampolining, please feel free to contact us or speak to their coach.

Picking Your Children Up After a Session

All parents need to come to Parklands sports hall, the Okehampton College gym or Holsworthy Leisure Centre sports hall to pick their children up after a session. We will sign children out at the sports hall door at Parklands, via the fire exit from the college gym, and bring children upstairs to reception at Holsworthy Leisure Centre. For safeguarding reasons, we cannot allow under 18s to walk to the car park without being accompanied by an adult.

Parents who want their children to walk home after a session will need to send an email to okehamptonflyers@yahoo.com confirming that they give permission for their children to walk home.

Badges and Certificates

We assess gymnasts for badges and certificates twice a year. When children have been assessed, you’ll receive an email confirming which type of badge and certificate they’ve earned. You can buy a badge and certificate through the club online shop.
