Congratulations to the West Devon gymnastics team who won the Devon Games team gymnastics competition on 3rd July.

The gymnasts were selected at area trials and performed a floor routine, a body management exercise comprising strength and flexibility skills and a vault exercise.

The team selected for West Devon was Demelza Brock, Eloise Cole, Shea Coyle, Bethan Honey and Jonah Lynch, with Sienna Fuller and Trinity Bridger as reserves.

All team members train at Okehampton Gym, Trampoline and DMT Club and competed against five other teams from Devon including Torbay, South Hams, Teignbridge and Mid Devon.

The West Devon team, taught by Vicki Pritchard, won by a lead of 5.1, with a total score of 215.3, with South Hams taking the silver medal with 210.2, and Teignbridge 1 taking bronze with 209.2. Mid Devon came fourth, Torbay fifth and Teignbridge 2 came sixth.

West Devon also had high individual rankings, with Demelza Brock winning the all around individual competition and the floor exercise. Shea Coyle tied in first place on vault and came third overall. Eloise Cole came fourth overall.

Gymnasts from the Mid Devon team, who attend after-school clubs led by Vicki, also did well, with Freddie Brassey-Barlow tying first on vault and Katy Pinkett coming third on vault. Abi Pinn came fifth overall and Katy Pinkett came eighth overall.

The competition was hosted by OCRA and was a great success. A new format was trialled for this year, with deduction sheets sent out to all coaches before the event and judges coming from Teignbridge, South Hams, Mid Devon and West Devon to mark the routines. OCRA have been asked to host it again in next year.
