
Okehampton Flyers tumbling gymnasts had a successful day at the South West Challenge Cup in Sherborne, Dorset.
At tumbling competitions, gymnasts perform three ‘passes’, consisting of linked floor skills down a narrow sprung track from cartwheels and round offs to handsprings, flics, whips and somersaults.
Many of the gymnasts achieved podium and top 8 places in large classes. It was a first tumbling competition for several of the gymnasts.
At club 1 level, Arabella Willcocks won a gold medal in the 7-8 girls’ class, with Gia Gardiner taking bronze, Mabel Knight coming 5th, Evelyn Moore 6th, Bella Sinclair 10th and Imogen Morgan-Cox 12th.
In the 9 year old girls’ class, Gracie-Mae Colwill won a silver medal, with Phoebe Bowden and Isla Hutchins achieving bronze and Olivia Garnsworthy coming 7th in the 10 year old girls’ class.
In the 11-12 girls’ class, Lily Mobbs-Marshall won gold, with Anya Hemsley winning silver, Elodie-Eve Gardiner winning bronze, and Elise Lewis achieving 8th place.
In the club 2 grade, Violet Smith came 5th in the 9-10 year old girls’ class, with Ronni Gardiner winning bronze in the 11-12 female class, and Gracie Cann winning gold in the 13+ female class.
At club 4, Alicia-Rose Janowski achieved 5th place and Isabella Back 8th in the 11-12 girls’ category, with Daisy Crompton achieving a silver medal at in the club 5 11-12 girls’ class, and Connie James winning bronze in the club 5 13+ girls’ category.
The gymnasts are now working towards competitions for the upcoming season.

Okehampton Flyers is looking for new coaches in Okehampton and Holsworthy and has full and part time contracts available.
The club is taking on coaches who are either already qualified and looking to progress their skills, or who are new to coaching but who are keen to coach part time or develop a full time career in sport.
All of their coaches have been fully supported in their British Gymnastics training, have had opportunities to train with Great Britain coaches, and have been given the option to attend international training camps.
The club is also looking for new gymnastics talent, and has a few spaces at all levels left for September. Whether beginner, intermediate or advanced in trampolining, DMT or tumbling, the club has slots available.
