Head coach profile – Vicki Pritchard
Vicki is an ex-national Grade A trampolinist who trained as a performer and coach with Rosie Bascombe at Littledown Trampoline Club, and later at Ringwood & Bournemouth Trampoline and DMT Club. Both clubs produced world and British champions. Vicki also took gymnastics classes at Littledown Gym Club before deciding to focus on trampolining.
After retiring from competition, Vicki qualified as a coach and county judge in trampolining, coaching at R&B and chairing judging panels at regional competitions. After reading English at Worcester College, University of Oxford, she continued to coach, and moved to Devon, where she started working for OCRA and developed the gym, trampoline and DMT club. She is one of the trampoline coaches for the South West team.
Vicki is qualified at UKCC level 3 and UKCC level 2 in five gymnastics disciplines, as well as level 3 theory and disability gymnastics (all British Gymnastics). She wrote OCRA’s gymnastics teacher training course which she delivers to schools in Devon. Vicki is also a BG club tumbling judge, a level 2 coach in foil, epee and sabre fencing (British Fencing), a HEMA coach (Ama-UK) and a Leader Archery coach (Archery GB).
Vicki has competed fencing for Hampshire and Devon and, in addition to her role as head coach, is Activities Manager for OCRA.
Okehampton Gym, Trampoline & DMT Club started with three trampoline and three gymnastics sessions per week. It now runs over 30 sessions six days a week for children and adults in trampolining, double mini-trampoline (DMT), recreational artistic gymnastics including tumbling, freestyle gymnastics and disabilities. Its classes are great fun and are open to people of all ages and abilities. Extra training is available during the holidays as well as gym, trampoline and DMT camps.
The club works hard to continuously improve its facilities. Over the last two years, a Sport England grant of £10,000, funding of £15,000 from Okehampton United Charities, support from local charities, and club fundraising has enabled the club to put an additional £32,000 towards new equipment, which included three 4×4 Eurotramp trampolines (including two Ultimate trampolines), an inflatable pit, two double mini-trampolines, a DMT and tumbling landing area, and a 14m sprung tumble track among other equipment.
Okehampton Gym, Trampoline & DMT Club is also home of ‘Okehampton Flyers’, a British Gymnastics club, set up to enable its gymnasts to enter regional and national competitions. The club (initially ‘Okehampton Flyers’) had amazing success in its first season of British Gymnastics competition, taking six places in the South West trampoline and DMT squads in 2018 (4 squad places, 2 reserve places) and winning 4 national NDP gold medals in trampoline and DMT and 1 national NDP bronze medal in DMT, as well as several regional medals. More gymnasts have qualified for the South West team this season.
Club gymnasts (representing West Devon) have won the South West Rotary Youth Games team gymnastics event for the last three years. The club hosted the gymnastics competition in 2016 and 2017 and will be entering gymnasts into tumbling competitions in October.
Okehampton Gym, Trampoline & DMT Club is now raising money to extend its sprung track and improve its artistic gymnastics facilities, including a new vault and asymmetric bars, to help develop its 370 gymnasts and accommodate more members. If anyone would like to make a donation, sponsor the club, or can help with funding, OCRA would be grateful if they could contact Vicki at firstname.lastname@example.org.
